FB092 Bronze and BM Bimetal Bushings for Dump Trucks
Hydraulic Cylinder Applications in Mining Trucks
Mining dump trucks used in coal, nickel, and copper mines operate under punishing conditions — carrying 50 to 300 tons over unpaved haul roads day after day. Their hydraulic telescopic lifting cylinders need bushings that handle shock loads, side forces, and abrasive dust while maintaining smooth extension and retraction across thousands of cycles. Two wrapped bronze bushing types have become standard choices for these applications: the FB092 bronze bearing with oil holes and the BM bimetal bearing. Each is suited to different performance and cost requirements, making them complementary products for truck manufacturers and aftermarket rebuilders alike.
Made from CuSn8P tin bronze with phosphorus, FB092 bushings feature through-wall oil holes that deliver consistent lubrication to the sliding interface. According to technical data from Viiplus, these bushings offer a static load capacity of 75 N/mm² and a PV limit of 16 N/mm²·m/s under oil lubrication, with an operating temperature range of -80°C to +200°C (ISO 3547 / DIN 1494 compliant). The oil holes reduce startup friction and help prevent cylinder scoring — a common failure mode in dump truck cylinders that operate intermittently under full load. Hydrapac Italia, a European hydraulics components supplier, lists MW-2 (FB092) wrapped bronze bearings for heavy equipment with static load ratings up to 120 N/mm². For European dump truck manufacturers, FB092 provides a traceable, certified solution that meets EN standards and offers service life 2 to 3 times longer than traditional cast bronze bushings.
For mining operations where purchase cost drives the decision, BM bimetal bushings (steel-backed bronze, also matching the JF bimetal type) offer a more economical option. The steel backing, made from low-carbon steel with a bronze alloy lining such as CuSn10P or CuPb10Sn10, provides structural strength with static loads up to 250 N/mm² — more than double that of solid bronze. The thin-wall wrapped design cuts material costs while maintaining sufficient wear resistance for truck cylinders operating at moderate speeds. In Indonesia, one of the worlds largest coal and nickel producers, local mining truck fleets and aftermarket rebuild shops have adopted BM bimetal bushings as a budget-friendly replacement. XCMG and other Chinese mining equipment manufacturers active in Indonesia ship hundreds of dump trucks annually to mines across Kalimantan and Sumatra, each requiring bushings for its hydraulic lift systems.
Both bushing types share the same outer diameter standards, making them interchangeable within the same cylinder housing. This gives distributors and repair shops a practical advantage: stock a single housing size and select FB092 or BM material based on the end customer budget and operating profile. As global demand for coal and nickel continues to drive mining expansion in Southeast Asia, and European regulations push for higher equipment reliability, the parallel demand for FB092 bronze bushings and BM bimetal bushings for dump truck hydraulic cylinders is expected to remain strong through 2026.
